Week 1 Start Sit Tight End

Week 1 Starts: Tight End

Tyler Higbee vs. Bears

With a banged-up running game, I expect Stafford to lean heavily on the passing attack. Chicago was bottom five against the position last year, and I expect Higbee to be used early and often as the third option through the air, which means TE1 production.

Logan Thomas vs. Chargers

With the upgrade in Fitzpatrick at quarterback and the injury to wide receiver Curtis Samuel, I expect the targets to be there for Thomas in this matchup against a Chargers defense that gave up the 11th most points to tight ends last year.

Honorable Mention: Jonnu Smith vs. Dolphins

I’m interested to see the early impact Smith has for this offense after being one of the key offseason acquisitions. I expect Jonnu to make a splash in week one with a touchdown and a full workload with fellow tight end being worked slowly into the offense.

Week 1 Sits: Tight End

Jared Cook @ Washington Football Team

This is not a good week to be hedging your bets for Cook against a stout Washington defense that allowed the third-fewest yards to tight ends last year. Avoid this matchup as I expect Cook to have minimal impact.

Mike Gesicki @ Patriots

With more weapons in Miami, I don’t expect Gesicki to see enough volume or touchdown upside against the Patriots defense that only allowed three touchdowns to the position last year. This makes keep Mike on the bench this week.

Honorable Mention: Cole Kmet @ Rams

With Dalton at Quarterback and up against a top defense, I don’t expect Kmet to break the top 12 this week. But, better days are ahead for Cole Kmet.
